Paying for Formula 1 is really two different products that sometimes overlap:
- A regional broadcaster — the local (or exclusive) live rights holder in your country: Sky, Canal+, ESPN, Apple TV in the US, and so on.
- F1 TV — Formula 1’s own streaming product (Access / Pro / Premium), sold only in countries where the Location Availability tool says yes.
If you have not checked your country yet, start with How to Watch F1 by Region (2026), then come back here to choose a stack.
The 30-second answer
| You care most about… | Lean toward… |
|---|---|
| One main commentary feed, living-room simplicity | Regional broadcaster |
| Onboard cameras, live team radio, driver tracker / data | F1 TV Pro or Premium where sold |
| 4K, Multiview, several screens at once | F1 TV Premium (or the US Apple TV path that includes it) |
| Archives, delayed replays, timing — not live race video | F1 TV Access |
| “I already pay for Sky / ESPN / Apple anyway” | Start with that sub; add F1 TV only if you still miss tools |
Many serious fans eventually run both: regional for the shared race vibe, F1 TV for pit-wall toys. That only works when F1 TV is actually sold where you live.
What each F1 TV tier is for
Official comparison from Formula 1’s help centre (feature names can still vary slightly by app):
| Feature | Access | Pro | Premium |

| Live timings & telemetry | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Tyre usage & driver maps | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Race replays | Delayed | Live + on demand | Live + on demand |
| Team radio | Best-of recaps | Live + recaps | Live + recaps |
| Shows, docs, archives | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Live F1 sessions | No | Yes | Yes |
| Live onboard cameras | No | Yes | Yes |
| Live team radios | No | Yes | Yes |
| F2 / F3 / F1 Academy / Porsche Supercup | No | Yes | Yes |
| Race weekend shows | No | Yes | Yes |
| Multiview (up to 4 feeds) | No | No | Yes |
| 4K UHD / HDR | No | No | Yes |
| Multi-device simultaneous streaming | No | No* | Yes (up to 6) |
*Pro accounts are commonly limited to one stream at a time even if multiple devices are registered — confirm current terms in your market.
Plain-English pick
- Access — data + catch-up, not a live race ticket.
- Pro — the classic “team principal” live stack.
- Premium — Pro plus 4K, Multiview, and multi-device streaming (device support still uneven; Multiview is limited on some browsers/platforms).

What “regional” usually means
Regional rights are not one product. They are whatever Formula 1 sold in your territory. Examples from the public F1 Broadcast Information table:
| Market (examples) | Regional home (examples) |
|---|---|
| United States (2026) | Apple TV (exclusive) |
| UK & Ireland | Sky Sports + Channel 4 |
| Canada | TSN / RDS / Noovo |
| Australia | Fox / Foxtel / Kayo |
| France | Canal+ |
| Germany | Sky Deutschland + RTL |
| Spain / Portugal | DAZN |
| Latin America | ESPN |
| Brazil | Globo / sportv |
| Japan | Fuji TV |
| MENA / much of SEA | beIN SPORTS |
Regional apps usually win on local commentary culture, channel surfing with other sports, and “everyone in the pub is watching the same feed.” They often lose on onboard choice, live radio, and deep timing unless the local package explicitly includes those tools.
Special case: United States in 2026
In the US, the regional product is Apple TV for live Formula 1. F1 TV Premium is positioned as available through an Apple TV subscription (included for subscribers; activate by linking an F1 account — see Formula 1’s partner-subscribe help).
Practical US stack:
- Apple TV subscription for the exclusive live home (English/Spanish commentary, session coverage, Multiview / extra feeds as Apple documents for supported devices).
- Link / activate F1 TV Premium entitlements if you still want the F1 TV app / web experience and support-series paths Apple and F1 describe for that bundle.
- Ignore outdated guides that tell US fans to buy standalone F1 TV Pro on the open web without checking current Apple activation.
We are not affiliated with Apple or Formula 1. Confirm price and trial terms on Apple’s site for your account.
Decision tree
- Is F1 TV sold in your country?
- No → regional broadcaster only (plus free-to-air slices if any).
- Yes → continue.
- Do you already pay for the regional rights holder?
- Yes → watch one race weekend on that feed. List what you missed (onboards? radio? support series?). Only then add Pro/Premium.
- No → choose regional or F1 TV Pro/Premium first based on the table above; add the second later if budget allows.
- Do you need live race video at all?
- No → Access may be enough.
- Yes → Pro minimum if F1 TV is your live path.
- Do you need Multiview / 4K / several TVs?
- Yes → Premium (or US Apple path).
- No → Pro is usually enough.
Cost thinking (without fake worldwide prices)
Prices differ by currency, billing period, and whether F1 TV is bundled into a TV partner. We will not invent a global price table here.
Instead:
- Compare annual vs monthly on the official checkout for your country.
- Count sports bundles you already pay for (Sky, Kayo, DAZN, Apple One, etc.).
- Count household screens (Premium’s multi-device story only helps if your devices and apps actually support it).
- Re-check before each season — US 2026 is proof that the “default” stack can change in one off-season.
Common mistakes
- Buying F1 TV Pro in a country where it is not sold, then fighting geo errors with a VPN.
- Assuming Channel 4 / free practice clips replace a full paid slate.
- Paying twice for the same job (two live commentary feeds) when one feed plus free timing apps would do.
- Choosing Premium only for 4K on a device/browser that does not support Premium features yet.
